ListServ, Barack Obama, and Stem Cells
I belong to a listserv serving the Spastic Paraplegia community. This listserv is basically an online support group.At the end of my posts on my sig is a quote about science research. The quote was from a discussion on healthcare by Barack Obama. At the time he was a Senator running for the Democratic nomination of president of the United States. The quote was his answer to a man who’s daughter had diabetes and the gentlemen was asking about research. Certain people on this listserv have complained to me, the board, and the woman who manages the listserv.
These people are so wrong in the fact that they believe it is a political endorsement. Why would I need to endorse a man who has already been elected? Politics and religion are not to be discussed on the list because some people get very upset. Which I understand because I have seen it first hand being involved in several debates on both religious and political nature.
I do completely endorse scientific research of all kinds and recognize that these complainers are not the most intelligent because Barack Obama got NIH so much more money for research. Not just stem cell research but research of all kinds. I do not question that if a cure is found using the dollars put into research by Barack Obama these idiots will be in line for the cure. Hypocrites! But if the cure involves stem cells then there is more of a question about whether those individuals against stem cell research will partake in that kind of a cure. People against stem cell research have strong feelings about it and that makes sense to me. What does not make sense is that since they do not want stem cell research for others, why on earth would they prevent others from using that medical knowledge? If you were against stem cell research, not wanting your tax dollars to fund that particular research makes sense. They can just assume that their dollars went to resurface a road. Just please do not place your politics on my shoulders because I am not interested in being selfish and uncaring.
Luke you are an idiot. Richard also. And many others. Get lives, start using your delete key, go back to watching FOX News and leave the rest of us alone.

Just joined listserv - got an e-mail and found your website. I am a Canadian but, for entertainment purposes, follow American politics!I am so relieved to find someone so rational. We are so together on the religion thing. You are very brave to disagree. I follow the ALS forums from time to time but the ever present christian cliche-dom makes me feel unwelcome. I’ll visit here instead.
